DI-SVI, non-profit-making association, is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that realizes projects of cooperation in developing countries and promotes, in Italy, actions to inform and educate to sustainable development; it raises the awareness and the understanding of the under-develop's mechanisms, improving the knowledge of the main causes of the economic interdependence between North and South of the world. The Association was constitued in October 1982 by a group of doctors that were ex co-operating in Mozambico and by some town-dweller of Asti sensitive to the issues of development. DI-SVI obtained the idonety to manage the development projects from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs according to the law n. 49/87. The Statutory Organs are: - Assembly of Members,
- Managing Committee,
- Arbiters,
- Auditor of Accounts.
DI-SVI works with financial resources that came from private donators and solidarity groups, with financing contributions from the European Union and from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, from International Agencies such as UNPFA (United Nation Population Fund) and from local administrations. The members contribute in the associative life with their own social share and donations and with voluntary work, through study missions to value the situation of the beneficiaries and to improve collaboration with the local partners and through collaborations in office according to the different qualifications. DI-SVI is membership of COCIS (Co-ordination of the Non-Governmental Organisations for International Cooperation) and of COP (Consortium of the Piedmontese NGOs). He puts himself as pacifist force and works also to support the realities that have as objective the respect of peace and the defence of environment. THE PROJECTS In Developing Countries, DI-SVI doesn't intervened in the political and religious problematic, in the respect of the self-determination of People. The key elements on which the projects are based are: - use of local materials,
- teaching of proper technologies,
- respect of custom and local traditions,
- respect of the environment,
- sustainability of the projects to ensure long-term acceptance of the results of the actions undertook and enhancing and reinforcing the own development capacities.
